Business laptop for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0-inch notebook built around an Intel Core i7-8650U processor with four cores and eight threads. It ships with 32GB of DDR4 memory and a 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe solid-state drive. Windows 10 Home is pre-installed, making it ready for office workloads and frequent travel.

Integrated graphics run cool and quiet

The Intel UHD Graphics 620 shares system memory and generates modest heat during typical productivity tasks. Fan noise remains low when browsing, editing documents or streaming video. The efficient 1.90 GHz base clock with turbo up to 4.2 GHz helps extend battery runtime between charges.

Non-touch Full HD display limits creative work

The 1920 x 1080 panel does not support touch input or stylus use. Buyers who need pen annotation, colour-critical editing or tablet-style interaction should look elsewhere. The screen suits standard business viewing but cannot serve as a drawing surface.

Questions about this item

How do I install a replacement M.2 NVMe SSD in the Latitude 7490 and what step is often missed?

Remove the base cover, unscrew the single retention screw, insert the drive at an angle and press down before re-fitting the screw; the step often missed is re-installing the screw to secure the drive.

Which component in this 7490 will need replacement first during long-term ownership?

The internal battery is the only user-replaceable part that degrades with charge cycles; memory and the 1 TB NVMe drive are soldered or not designed for routine swaps.

What thermal limit appears first when the i7-8650U runs sustained loads in this 14" chassis?

The processor will hit its 4.2 GHz turbo ceiling briefly, then throttle to maintain temperatures within the compact cooling assembly, reducing clock speeds until the workload eases.
