Business-ready ultraportable

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0-inch laptop built for professionals who need reliable performance on the move. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i7-8650U processor with four cores and eight threads. The system includes 32GB of DDR4 memory and a 512GB M.2 SATA SSD for fast access to files and applications. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles everyday visual tasks on the 1920 x 1080 FHD display.

Suits mobile workers needing legacy ports

This configuration suits travellers and client-facing staff who value a built-in HDMI port, three USB 3.0 ports and a microSD card reader alongside Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11ac Wi-Fi with Bluetooth 4.2 keep the machine wired or wireless in most office environments. Buyers who want a touchscreen, a dedicated graphics card or a larger display should look at other models.

Thunderbolt 3 over USB-C decides docking

The single Thunderbolt 3 port provides video, data and charging through one USB-C connector, making it the key spec for anyone planning to use a dock or external monitor. Verify that your peripherals support this protocol before purchasing. If your workflow relies on multiple legacy USB-A devices, the three USB 3.0 ports cover that need without adapters.

Questions about this item

Will the 512 GB M.2 SATA SSD need replacement as my storage needs grow?

The 512 GB M.2 SATA SSD can be swapped for a larger M.2 SATA drive when you need more space; the slot is accessible after removing the base cover.

What limit appears first when the Core i7-8650U runs at 4.2 GHz on all four cores?

The quad-core chip will reach its thermal ceiling and throttle below the 4.2 GHz turbo speed during sustained heavy workloads.

How loud and hot does the 14 inch chassis get during an all-day video-conference load?

Expect the fan to spin up audibly and the keyboard deck to feel warm as the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 shares the same cooling solution.
