DELL Latitude E5430 business laptop

The Dell Latitude E5430 is a 14.1 inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i7-3740QM quad-core processor running at 2.70 GHz. It comes with 8 GB of DDR3 memory and a 128 GB 2.5 inch SATA solid-state drive. Windows 10 Professional 64-bit is pre-installed with a Certificate of Authenticity. A DVD-RW drive, HDMI output, VGA port, webcam and Trusted Platform Module security chip complete the package.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This laptop suits professionals who need a durable, portable machine for office applications, email and web browsing on Windows 10 Pro. The integrated graphics and HD 1366 x 768 display limit its usefulness for gaming, video editing or colour-critical design work. Buyers who require a touchscreen, a higher-resolution panel, discrete graphics or more than 128 GB of internal storage should consider a different system.

The specification that decides fit

The 128 GB 2.5 inch SATA SSD is the single specification that determines whether this unit meets your storage needs; it offers solid-state speed but limited capacity for large media libraries or multiple virtual machines.

Questions about this item

How do I install a replacement 2.5" SATA SSD in this Latitude E5430, and what step do people often miss?

Remove the bottom access panel, swap the 2.5" SATA drive, then reinstall Windows 10 Pro 64-bit from recovery media; the step often missed is re-enabling the TPM security chip in BIOS after the swap.

Which components will need replacement first during the life of this E5430?

The internal battery and the DVD±RW optical drive are the parts most likely to require replacement as they wear out with charge cycles and mechanical use.

What thermal limit appears first when the i7-3740QM runs sustained loads in this chassis?

The quad-core 2.70 GHz CPU hits its thermal ceiling under prolonged heavy work, causing the firmware to throttle clock speeds to protect the silicon.
