Dell Latitude E5450 for everyday work

The Dell Latitude E5450 is a 14.0 inch HD laptop built for office tasks and web browsing. It runs on an Intel Core i5-5300U dual-core processor with a base frequency of 2.30 GHz and a turbo frequency of 2.90 GHz. The system includes 8GB of DDR3 memory and a new 2TB SSD for storage. Windows 10 Home 64-bit comes pre-installed.

Thermals and power in daily use

The ultra-low voltage processor helps keep heat output modest during typical productivity workloads. Fan noise stays low when handling documents, email or video playback. The 2.5 inch SATA SSD has no moving parts, which aids silent operation and reduces power draw compared to a mechanical drive. Battery life will vary with screen brightness and workload intensity.

Upgrading from an older drive or less memory

Replacing a traditional hard drive with the new 2TB SSD dramatically improves boot times and application responsiveness. The 8GB of RAM handles multitasking well, though the two slots support up to 16GB if heavier workloads demand more memory. Buyers who want a touchscreen or a higher resolution display should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2TB SSD and what step is often missed?

The 2TB SSD uses a 2.5" SATA connection; secure it with the caddy screws and ensure the SATA data and power cables click fully into the motherboard connector.

What maintenance or replacement will the 8GB DDR3 memory need later?

The laptop has two memory slots supporting up to 16 GB total; you can add a second DDR3 module or replace both sticks to reach the maximum capacity.

What limit appears first during sustained use on the Core i5-5300U?

The dual-core processor reaches its 2.90 GHz turbo frequency under load, then thermal throttling typically limits sustained performance before other components.
