14-inch business laptop with Intel i7 dual-core

The Dell Latitude E5450 is a 14-inch laptop powered by an Intel i7 dual-core Gen 5 processor running at 2.90 GHz. It comes with 8 GB of DDR3 memory and a 128 GB SSD for the operating system and applications. Windows 10 Home 64-bit is pre-installed and activates automatically. The non-touch display measures 14.0 inches diagonally.

Sustained workload behaviour

Under continuous load the integrated graphics share system memory with the processor, so performance depends on the 8 GB DDR3 configuration. The original lithium-ion battery is tested to hold a charge, though runtime will vary with screen brightness and processor demand. Two memory slots allow an upgrade to 16 GB maximum if multitasking becomes constrained.

Practical limits of the 802.11a/b/g wireless

Wireless connectivity uses 802.11a/b/g WLAN, which caps throughput well below modern Wi-Fi standards and lacks Bluetooth support. Only two USB ports are available for peripherals, and no optical drive is fitted. Buyers who need faster wireless speeds, Bluetooth peripherals or more USB connections should consider those limits before purchase.

Questions about this item

How warm does the E5450 get when the Intel i7 2.90 GHz processor runs all day?

The laptop uses an integrated graphics chip and a 14 inch non-touch screen, so typical office workloads keep the chassis warm but not hot; the original lithium-ion battery is tested to hold a charge during extended use.

What cables or peripherals are required to start the E5450 since it has only two USB ports and no Bluetooth?

The package includes the AC adapter for power; you will need a wired mouse or keyboard if you want both USB ports free, and an Ethernet cable or USB Wi-Fi adapter for wireless because Bluetooth is not fitted.

Can the 128 GB SSD and 8 GB DDR3 memory work with older docking stations or monitors I already own?

The 14 inch display and integrated graphics drive external monitors through the available video output, while the two USB ports accept legacy peripherals; memory maxes at 16 GB if you later add a second DDR3 module.
