14-inch HD Latitude E5450

The Dell Latitude E5450 is a 14.0-inch HD laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-5600U dual-core processor running at 2.60 GHz with a 3.20 GHz turbo frequency. It comes equipped with 16GB of DDR3 memory and a new 1TB 2.5-inch SATA SSD. The system ships without an operating system installed.

Ideal for OS-flexible deployments

This laptop suits IT departments and users who need a ready-to-deploy 14-inch business chassis that accepts a custom Windows or Linux image. The memory is maxed at 16GB across two slots, so buyers who need more RAM should look elsewhere. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 5500 and 1366 x 768 non-touch display limit suitability for graphics-heavy workloads or multi-monitor productivity.

Deciding factor: no operating system

The single specification that decides fit is the absence of a pre-installed operating system. You must supply and install your own OS licence before the laptop is usable. If your workflow requires an out-of-the-box licensed Windows environment, this unit will not meet that need.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2.5" SATA 1TB SSD in this Latitude E5450, and what step is often missed?

Remove the bottom cover, slide the drive into the 2.5" bay, secure it with the caddy screws, then reconnect the SATA cable — people forget to seat the cable fully.

What maintenance will the 16GB DDR3 memory need later?

The two slots are already filled to the 16 GB maximum, so no upgrade is possible; only reseat the modules if errors appear.

What limit appears first during sustained loads on the Core i7-5600U?

The dual-core 2.60 GHz processor hits its thermal ceiling before the Intel HD Graphics 5500 or the 1TB SSD become bottlenecks.
