HP EliteBook 840 G3 business laptop

This HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0 inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor running at 2.4 GHz. It ships with 16 GB of DDR3 memory and a 1 TB M.2 SATA SSD. The 1920 x 1080 FHD display uses LED backlighting and is a non-touch panel. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 drives the screen and external outputs. Windows 10 Home is pre-installed.

Ports and expansion for office setups

The chassis provides two USB 3.0 ports and one USB 3.1 Type-C port for peripherals and docking. A full-size DisplayPort and a VGA connector support dual external monitors. Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet and 802.11 wireless handle wired and wireless networking. A SIM card reader is present for mobile broadband options. The M.2 SATA SSD occupies the primary storage slot, so additional internal storage would require a different form factor or external drive.

Included charger and battery for immediate use

The package includes the laptop, a compatible charger, and the installed battery. Windows 10 Home is ready to run out of the box, and the supplier notes a Windows 11 Pro upgrade path is available. The 720p webcam supports video calls without extra hardware. Grade B condition means visible cosmetic blemishes such as scratches are present, so buyers seeking a pristine appearance should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Will the dual-core i5-6300U throttle when I push it for long periods?

The 2.4 GHz Skylake processor has a 3 MB L3 cache and only two cores, so sustained multi-threaded workloads will hit the core-count ceiling before thermal limits become the main bottleneck.

How loud and hot does the EliteBook 840 G3 get during an all-day workload?

With integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 and a fan-cooled 14.0" chassis, the system stays quiet for office tasks; the single 3.1 Type-C port and Gigabit RJ-45 add negligible heat, so surface temperatures remain comfortable for lap use.

What must I already own to use the VGA and full-size DisplayPort outputs?

You need a VGA cable for legacy projectors or a DisplayPort cable for modern monitors; both ports are full-size, so no adapters are required unless your display only accepts HDMI or USB-C video input.
