Business ultrabook for office tasks

The Dell Latitude E7440 is a 14-inch ultrabook built for everyday business work. Its 4th Generation Intel Core i5-4200U dual-core processor and 8 GB of DDR3 memory handle document editing, web browsing and video calls without difficulty. The 1 TB SATA hard drive stores large file archives locally. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Thermals noise and power in normal use

The low-voltage Core i5-4200U runs at a base frequency of 1.6 GHz and can reach 1.9 GHz under load, keeping heat output modest during typical office workloads. Integrated Intel HD Graphics shares system memory, avoiding a separate GPU that would increase fan activity. The 2.5-inch hard drive adds minimal power draw compared with a discrete graphics solution.

1280 x 720 HD display decides fit

The 14.0-inch LED panel has a native resolution of 1280 x 720, which limits on-screen workspace for multi-window tasks or detailed spreadsheets. Buyers who need more screen real estate for design, coding or data analysis should consider a higher-resolution panel. The non-touch screen also rules out pen or finger input workflows.

Questions about this item

How do I install the DDR3 SODIMM modules into the two memory slots?

Remove the bottom cover, align the notch on each SODIMM with the key in the slot, insert at an angle, then press down firmly until both side clips click; the common mistake is not pushing far enough to engage both clips.

What maintenance or replacement will the 2.5-inch 1TB SATA hard drive need later?

The mechanical hard drive is the most likely component to wear out; plan to replace it with another 2.5-inch SATA drive and reinstall Windows 10 Pro when it fails or becomes too slow.

What limit appears first during sustained heavy workloads on the Core i5-4200U?

The dual-core 1.6 to 1.9 GHz processor with integrated graphics will hit thermal throttling before the 8 GB DDR3 memory or 1 TB hard drive become bottlenecks.
