Business Ultrabook with touchscreen

The Dell Latitude E7440 is a 14.0 inch touchscreen laptop built for professional workloads. It runs Windows 10 Pro on a dual-core Intel Core i5-4300U processor clocked at 1.9 GHz. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 4400 drives the 1920 x 1080 LED panel. Eight gigabytes of DDR3 memory and a 1TB SATA hard drive provide the baseline configuration.

Thermals and power in daily use

The ultrabook chassis uses the low-power U-series processor to keep heat output modest during typical office tasks. Fan activity remains subdued while handling documents, web sessions or video playback. The 1.9 GHz base frequency and integrated graphics limit sustained power draw, so the system stays comfortable on a desk or lap without aggressive cooling cycles.

Included hardware and software impact

A built-in DVD-RW drive adds legacy media read and write capability absent from many modern thin-and-light designs. HDMI and VGA outputs let you connect external displays without adapters. The integrated webcam supports video conferencing out of the box. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed, delivering business features such as BitLocker and domain join immediately after first boot.

Questions about this item

How do I upgrade the RAM in this Latitude E7440 and which slot do people forget to populate?

The laptop has two SODIMM slots holding 4 GB modules each; the common mistake is leaving one slot empty instead of installing a matched pair for dual-channel performance.

Which component will likely need replacement first — the 1 TB SATA hard drive or the integrated graphics?

The 2.5-inch 1 TB SATA hard drive has moving parts and will wear out before the Intel HD Graphics 4400 integrated controller.

At what point does the Core i5-4300U hit its thermal ceiling during a long compile or render?

The dual-core 1.9 GHz processor relies on the ultrabook's slim cooler, so sustained 100 % load typically triggers throttling within a few minutes.
