14.0" HD business laptop

The Dell Latitude E7450 is a 14.0-inch HD notebook built around a dual-core Intel Core i7-5600U processor with a 3.20 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a new 128GB 2.5-inch SATA SSD. No operating system is installed, so the buyer provides their own licence.

Sustained workload behaviour

The i7-5600U maintains its 2.60 GHz base clock during extended tasks, while Intel HD Graphics 5500 handles integrated video output at 1366 x 768 resolution. The 8GB DDR3 configuration fits within the two available slots, leaving headroom up to the 16 GB maximum supported by the platform.

Upgrade context

This unit replaces an older hard-drive laptop when faster boot and application loading are the priority. The jump is worthwhile for users who need a lightweight 14-inch chassis with SSD responsiveness and a fresh 128GB drive, but not for buyers who want more storage capacity or a touchscreen display.

Questions about this item

How much heat and fan noise does the Intel Core i7-5600U produce when the Latitude E7450 runs all day?

The dual-core i7-5600U has a low thermal design, so the Latitude E7450 stays cool and the fan runs quietly even during extended workloads.

What must I already own to use this Latitude E7450 since it ships with no operating system?

You need a Windows or Linux installation media and a valid licence to install an OS before the laptop can boot to a desktop.

Will my existing DDR3 SODIMM modules work if I want to expand the 8 GB up to the 16 GB maximum?

Yes, the two memory slots accept standard DDR3 SODIMMs, so compatible modules you already have can be added to reach the 16 GB limit.
