Dell Latitude E7450 14.0" HD laptop

The Dell Latitude E7450 is a 14.0 inch HD laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-5300U dual-core processor running at 2.30 GHz with a 2.90 GHz turbo frequency. It comes with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a new 1TB 2.5 inch SATA SSD. The system ships without an operating system installed.

Build integration and expansion

The laptop uses 2.5 inch SATA storage and provides two memory slots supporting up to 16 GB of DDR3 RAM. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 5500 handles display output on the 1366 x 768 non-touch screen. Buyers who need more than two memory slots or a different storage interface should consider other platforms.

Capacity and headroom

The 1TB SSD offers substantial space for applications and local files while the 8GB memory handles typical business multitasking. The dual-core processor manages office workloads and web browsing within its thermal envelope. Users requiring higher core counts, dedicated graphics or a higher resolution display will reach the limits of this configuration.

Questions about this item

Does the Intel Core i5-5300U throttle when held at 2.90 GHz turbo for long periods?

The dual-core processor reaches 2.90 GHz turbo but sustained loads will trigger thermal limits that reduce clock speed to protect the chip.

How loud and hot does the laptop get when the 1TB SSD and Intel HD Graphics 5500 run all day?

With no discrete GPU the cooling fan stays relatively quiet, though the chassis warms noticeably above the keyboard deck during continuous use.

Which operating system licence do I need to supply before the Latitude E7450 will boot to a desktop?

The unit ships with no operating system, so you must provide a Windows or Linux installation media and licence to make it usable.
