Purpose-built mobile workstation

The Dell Latitude E7450 is a 14.0 inch HD laptop driven by an Intel Core i5-5200U dual-core processor at 2.20 GHz with a 2.70 GHz turbo frequency. It comes equipped with 16GB DDR3 memory and a new 1TB 2.5 inch SATA SSD. Intel HD Graphics 5500 handles the 1366 x 768 non-touch display.

Best fit and limits

Suits professionals who need a durable 14 inch business chassis with ample memory and solid-state storage for office applications and legacy software. Buyers who require a pre-installed operating system, higher display resolution, discrete graphics or more than 16GB of memory should look at other configurations.

Deciding specification

The 16GB DDR3 ceiling is the single figure that determines suitability; the system supports no more than this amount. If your workload demands additional memory headroom, this unit will not meet the requirement.

Questions about this item

Will the 2.70 GHz turbo on the i5-5200U hold steady during long compiles?

The dual-core processor reaches 2.70 GHz turbo when thermal headroom allows; sustained loads will drop toward the 2.20 GHz base once the chassis warms up.

What does the SATA link mean for the 1TB SSD's real-world throughput?

The 2.5-inch drive uses the SATA interface, capping sequential reads and writes at the bus limit of roughly 550 MB/s.

Can I add a second stick to the two DDR3 slots?

Both slots are already populated to reach the 16 GB maximum supported by this model, so no further memory can be added.
