14-inch business laptop

The Dell Latitude E7470 is a 14.0-inch laptop with a Full HD anti-glare display running Windows 10 Pro. It uses an Intel Core i7-6600U dual-core processor up to 3.40 GHz with 8GB DDR4 2133MHz memory and a 512GB solid state drive. Integrated Intel HD Graphics handle the visual output.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

Buyers needing a lightweight 1.42 kg chassis with 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1 for office mobility will find it suitable. Users who require a dedicated graphics processor, a touchscreen panel, an optical drive, or more than 8GB of system memory should consider other configurations.

Deciding specification: 512GB SSD and 8GB DDR4

The single specification that decides fit is the combination of a 512GB solid state drive and 8GB of DDR4 2133MHz memory soldered to the board. This fixed capacity and memory ceiling determines whether the laptop can hold the required workload and data set.

Questions about this item

Is the 8 GB DDR4 2133 memory soldered or can I swap it for a larger module later?

The 8 GB DDR4 2133 memory is soldered to the board and cannot be upgraded.

Will the 15 W i7-6600U throttle during long compiles or video exports?

The dual-core 15 W i7-6600U will hit its thermal limit first under sustained heavy loads, reducing clocks to stay within its power envelope.

How loud does the fan get and how hot does the chassis feel when the laptop runs all day?

Under continuous load the single fan spins up audibly and the bottom surface near the hinge becomes warm to the touch.
