Dell Latitude E7470 14 inch Ultrabook

The Dell Latitude E7470 is a 14.0 inch ultrabook powered by an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor at 2.4GHz. It comes with 8GB DDR4 memory and a 256GB SSD running Windows 10 Pro. The 1600 x 900 non-touch display and Intel HD Graphics 520 handle everyday office tasks.

Who this suits and who it does not

This laptop suits professionals needing a light 14 inch device for documents, email and web browsing with three USB 3.0 ports and HDMI output. Buyers who want a touchscreen, a higher resolution panel, discrete graphics for creative work or more than 8GB of memory should look elsewhere.

Deciding specification: 8GB DDR4 soldered memory

The 8GB DDR4 memory is not upgradeable so the system cannot exceed this capacity. If your workflow requires 16GB or more for virtual machines, large datasets or heavy multitasking this model will not meet that need. Choose a configuration with higher memory if that applies.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 256GB SSD in the E7470, and what step is often missed?

The SSD slides into the internal M.2 slot after removing the bottom cover; the step often missed is reseating the battery connector before closing the chassis.

Which component in the Latitude E7470 will need replacement first during long-term ownership?

The internal battery is the first part that degrades; the spec notes it exceeds 80% of original capacity, so plan a swap once runtime drops below your needs.

What thermal limit appears first on the i5-6300U when the 14.0" ultrabook runs sustained workloads?

The dual-core 2.4GHz CPU hits its thermal throttle point before the Intel HD Graphics 520, causing clock speeds to drop during prolonged heavy tasks.
