Purpose-built ultraportable

The Dell Latitude E7470 is a 14.0 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-6650U dual-core processor running at 2.20 GHz with a 3.40 GHz turbo frequency. It comes with 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a new 240 GB M.2 NVMe PCIe solid-state drive. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed on the HD+ 1600 x 900 non-touch display.

Who this suits

Mobile professionals who need a lightweight Windows 10 machine for document work, web apps and video calls will find the 8 GB RAM and fast NVMe storage responsive. Buyers who want more storage capacity, a touchscreen, a higher-resolution panel or discrete graphics for creative workloads should look at something else.

Deciding specification

The 240 GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD is the single component that determines fit: it sets the total space available for the operating system, applications and active files before external or cloud storage becomes necessary.

Questions about this item

How do I install the M.2 NVMe SSD and which step is often missed?

Insert the 240GB M.2 NVMe PCIe drive into the slot at a shallow angle, then secure it with the single retention screw; the step people forget is fastening that screw before reassembling the chassis.

What maintenance will the 8GB DDR4 memory need later?

The two DDR4 slots support up to 16 GB total, so you can add a matching module later; no routine maintenance is required beyond keeping the vents clear of dust.

What limit appears first during sustained loads on the Intel Iris Graphics 540?

The integrated GPU shares system memory and thermal headroom with the dual-core i7-6650U, so temperatures rise quickly and the graphics clock throttles before the CPU hits its 3.40 GHz turbo ceiling.
