Rugged 14″ laptop for field work

The Latitude Rugged 5420 is a 14.0″ non-touch notebook built to survive dust, vibration and temperature extremes while running Windows 10 Pro. An Intel Core i5-8350U with four cores reaches 3.6 GHz turbo for everyday office and database tasks. 16 GB of memory and a 512 GB SSD keep multiple programs and local files responsive. Integrated graphics drive the 1920 x 1080 FHD panel and external displays via HDMI or DisplayPort.

Who benefits and who should look elsewhere

First responders, utility crews and mobile technicians who need a sealed chassis, optional LTE and legacy ports such as native serial and RJ-45 will fit this unit into existing workflows. Buyers who want a lightweight ultraportable, a touchscreen, discrete graphics for CAD rendering or a newer Wi-Fi standard should evaluate other models.

Deciding spec — 802.11ac wireless

The system ships with 802.11ac WLAN; environments that require the higher throughput and lower latency of newer Wi-Fi generations will need a USB adapter or a different laptop.
