Pocket-sized business projector

The Dell M318WL is a 0.8 lb DLP projector with a native 1280 x 800 resolution and 500 lumens brightness. Its 4.1 inch square footprint and 1.4 inch height let it sit in a palm or slip into any bag. A 7 GB internal drive stores presentations for PC-free playback, while a built-in speaker and 3.5 mm audio jack handle sound without extra gear.

Brightness and resolution limits

At 500 lumens the image stays readable in dim rooms but washes out under strong ambient light. The 1280 x 800 panel tops out at 720p widescreen, so full HD or 4K sources are downscaled and fine detail is lost. A 10,000:1 contrast ratio helps text contrast in darkened spaces but cannot compensate for the low lumen count in brighter environments.

LED light-source lifetime

The mercury-free LED engine is rated for up to 30,000 hours, removing lamp-replacement cost and downtime for the projector’s usable life. This single figure decides whether the M318WL suits a low-maintenance, frequent-use workflow or a buyer who expects user-replaceable lamps and higher peak brightness.

Questions about this item

Which version of the M318WL should I choose for a lightweight, portable projector with built-in storage?

The M318WL is a single model weighing 12.70 oz (360 g) and measuring 4.1" wide, 4.1" long and 1.4" high, with a 7 GB internal drive for PC-free presentations.

What does the 500 lumen rating mean when I use this projector in a meeting room?

At 500 lumens the M318WL is suited to dim or moderately lit rooms; in bright spaces the image will look washed out, so control ambient light for best results.

What interfaces does the M318WL provide and what do they limit in practice?

It has a USB port for flash drives, a 3.5 mm audio jack for external speakers, and a 7.4 mm barrel connector compatible with Dell laptop adapters; wireless projection requires the optional Dell wireless dongle.
