Dell MBE2073RC 73 GB 15K SAS drive

This Dell enterprise hard drive delivers 73 GB of storage in a 2.5 inch form factor. It spins at 15000 RPM and connects through a SAS 6Gb/s interface with a 16 MB buffer. The unit ships new and includes a PowerEdge server caddy for direct installation.

Suited for compatible PowerEdge servers and arrays

The drive fits a wide range of PowerEdge models including the R310, R320, R410, R415, R420, R510, R515, R520, R610, R620, R710, R715, R720, R810, R815, R820, R910, T310, T320, T410, T415, T420, T610, T620 and T710. It is not for buyers who need more than 73 GB of capacity or who require a different physical interface.

15000 RPM rotational speed decides fit

The 15000 RPM spindle speed determines the drive's random-access performance and heat profile. Verify that the target server bay and controller support this speed and the SAS 6Gb/s link before purchasing.

Questions about this item

What does the 15000RPM speed mean for real-world server workloads?

The 15000RPM spindle delivers low latency and high IOPS for transaction-heavy databases and virtualisation hosts, making the 73GB capacity usable for performance-critical volumes rather than bulk storage.

How does the SAS 6Gb/s interface limit actual throughput?

The 6Gb/s SAS link caps sustained transfers at roughly 600MB/s, so the drive’s own media speed becomes the bottleneck before the interface saturates in typical enterprise arrays.

Will the included caddy fit a PowerEdge R620 2.5" bay?

Yes, the supplied tray matches the 2.5" hot-plug carriers used across the R620 and the other listed PowerEdge models from the M600 through the T710 families.
