Refurbished OptiPlex 7040 Business Desktop

This refurbished Dell OptiPlex 7040 is a mid-tower desktop built for everyday office work. It runs on a quad-core Intel Core i7-6700 processor at 3.40 GHz with 8 MB L3 cache and 16 GB of DDR4 memory. A 512 GB SSD provides the system drive, and Windows 10 Pro 64-bit comes pre-installed. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 530 drives the video outputs.

Included DVD-ROM and Display Outputs

The chassis includes a DVD-ROM optical drive for legacy media or software installation. Video connectivity uses DisplayPort and HDMI ports, enabling up to three external displays without a discrete graphics card. The integrated graphics share system memory, so the 16 GB RAM allocation affects graphical headroom when multiple monitors are active.

Check Power Supply and Expansion Space

Before ordering, verify that the existing power supply unit in this mid-tower chassis delivers enough wattage and the correct connectors for any discrete graphics card you may add later. Confirm the physical length clearance for a full-height add-in card and ensure the motherboard has a free PCIe x16 slot. The board supports up to 64 GB of DDR4 if you plan a future memory upgrade.

Questions about this item

Will the 512 GB SSD need to be replaced for more capacity?

The 512 GB SSD is the installed drive; the chassis supports dual hard drives so a second drive can be added instead of replacing the original.

What limits sustained CPU performance at 3.40 GHz?

The Intel Core i7-6700 uses Intel HD Graphics 530 and a mid-tower air cooler; thermal headroom of the stock cooler is the first limit under continuous load.

How loud and hot does the mid-tower get running all day?

The 7040-T mid-tower uses a standard business desktop fan profile; expect low office-grade noise and moderate heat output during extended use.
