Compact desktop for everyday office tasks

The Dell OptiPlex 3010 is a small-form-factor desktop built around an Intel Core i5 3rd Gen processor with 8 GB of DDR3 memory and a 128 GB SATA SSD. It ships with Windows 10 Home, a 16X DVD±RW drive, integrated Intel HD Graphics 2500, Gigabit Ethernet and USB keyboard and mouse. The system targets students and home-office users who need a ready-to-run PC for web browsing, document editing and light multitasking.

Low heat and quiet operation at idle

With the integrated graphics and a modest processor the unit draws little power during typical office work, keeping internal temperatures low and fan noise barely audible. The 2.5-inch SSD has no moving parts, so seek noise is eliminated and the DVD drive spins only when media is accessed. This thermal profile suits quiet environments such as bedrooms or shared workspaces.

Steady performance within fixed memory limits

Under sustained load the 8 GB DDR3 ceiling — already fully populated across both DIMM slots — becomes the limiting factor; heavy multitasking or large datasets will trigger paging to the 128 GB SSD. The integrated GPU handles video playback and basic desktop composition but cannot accelerate modern 3D workloads. Buyers who need more memory, faster storage or discrete graphics should consider a different platform.

Questions about this item

How do I install more memory and what is the common mistake?

The system has two 240-pin DDR3 slots, both occupied by 4 GB modules. Maximum supported memory is 8 GB, so adding capacity requires replacing both sticks with a matched 8 GB DDR3 kit.

What maintenance or replacement will the 2.5-inch 128 GB SSD need later?

The SATA SSD has no moving parts, but its write endurance is finite. Plan to replace the drive once the host reports reallocated sectors or when SMART health drops below the manufacturer threshold.

What limit appears first under sustained load with the integrated Intel HD Graphics 2500?

The GPU shares system memory and has no dedicated VRAM, so thermal throttling of the processor or memory bandwidth saturation will limit 3D performance before the graphics engine itself maxes out.
