Compact business desktop for everyday tasks

The Dell OptiPlex 7010 SFF is a small-form-factor desktop built around a 3rd Gen Intel Quad-Core i5-3470s running at 2.90 GHz with 8 GB of DDR3 memory. It ships with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit pre-installed and includes a USB keyboard and mouse. The 3.5-inch 500 GB hard drive and DVD±RW drive handle local storage and optical media. Integrated Intel Graphics 2500 and Gigabit Ethernet provide baseline display output and wired networking.

Suits office and home-office users who need

Buyers who want more storage capacity, faster memory technology, a dedicated graphics card, or a larger chassis for expansion cards should look at other configurations. The small form factor limits internal upgrade space and the DDR3 platform does not support newer memory types.

8 GB DDR3 memory capacity

The system comes with 8 GB of DDR3 RAM installed in a DIMM 240-pin form factor. This amount and generation determine whether the machine can handle your workload or if you will need to add modules up to the 16 GB maximum mentioned in the configuration options.

Questions about this item

How do I add more DDR3 memory to the OptiPlex 7010 SFF and which slot do people forget?

Open the small form factor case, locate the four 240-pin DIMM sockets, and populate the second slot first because the board expects memory in channel A before channel B.

Which component in this OptiPlex 7010 SFF will likely need replacement after a few years of daily use?

The 3.5-inch 500 GB mechanical hard drive contains moving platters that wear out; plan to swap it for a solid-state drive when it becomes noisy or slow.

What limits sustained performance first when the i5-3470S runs at its 3.60 GHz turbo for long periods?

The small form factor chassis and stock cooler cannot dissipate heat fast enough, so the processor throttles below its maximum turbo frequency.
