Business micro-tower with 65 W power supply

The Dell OptiPlex 7040 is a refurbished micro-tower desktop built for office environments. It ships with Windows 10 Pro, 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB SSD. Integrated Intel graphics handle everyday productivity tasks. A wired keyboard and mouse are included in the box.

65 W PSU keeps thermals and noise low

The 65 W power supply limits heat output and fan noise during typical business workloads. Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11AC wireless provide stable network connectivity. Six USB 3.0 ports and an HDMI output support common peripherals without extra adapters.

Replaces older desktops lacking SSD speed

This unit upgrades systems still running on mechanical hard drives or with less memory. The jump is worth it when faster boot times and snappier application launches matter for daily workflows. Buyers who need discrete graphics or higher core counts should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How do I add a second drive to the 256 GB SSD storage in the OptiPlex 7040 Micro Tower?

Open the chassis, mount the drive in an available 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch bay using the tool-less brackets, then connect the data and power cables to the motherboard. The step most people miss is routing the cables clear of the CPU cooler so airflow stays unobstructed.

Which component will need replacement first when the 65 W power supply ages?

The internal 65 W power supply is the first part to wear under continuous load; electrolytic capacitors degrade over time and can cause unexpected shutdowns once their rated hours are exceeded.

What thermal limit appears first when the i7-6700T runs sustained workloads in this 65 W chassis?

The 65 W power supply and the Micro Tower's compact airflow limit sustained turbo on the i7-6700T; the CPU will throttle to its base 2.8 GHz once the cooling solution saturates.
