Dell OptiPlex 7040 SFF — business desktop

This small-form-factor desktop ships with Windows 10 Pro and an Intel Core i7-6700 running at 3.40 GHz. It is built for office tasks such as document editing, web browsing and line-of-business applications. The compact chassis fits tight desk spaces or VESA mounts. Buyers who need discrete graphics or more than four memory slots should look elsewhere.

4 GB DDR3 memory — single upgrade constraint

The system includes 4 GB of DDR3 RAM across four total slots. DDR3 is the only supported memory type; other generations will not fit. Adding modules is the primary way to improve multitasking headroom. No SSD is installed, so the 500 GB SATA hard drive remains the sole storage device.

Sustained workloads on integrated graphics

The integrated Intel HD Graphics shares system memory and has no dedicated VRAM. Under continuous load the shared buffer and thermal limits of the slim chassis throttle performance. Long render jobs or multi-monitor setups will run slower than short bursts. The 500 GB SATA drive also limits sustained write speeds compared with solid-state storage.
