Designed for basic office tasks

The Dell OptiPlex 745 Mini Tower is a desktop computer built around an Intel Pentium D dual-core processor running at 3.4 GHz. It includes 4 GB of DDR2 memory and a 500 GB hard drive for storage. Windows 7 Home Premium comes pre-installed, making it ready for everyday productivity.

Integrated graphics keep heat low

Integrated graphics mean the system generates less heat than a discrete card would, so the mini-tower chassis runs cooler and quieter during typical workloads. The 64-bit dual-core architecture handles standard applications without drawing excessive power. This combination suits environments where noise and energy use matter.

Restore disk simplifies recovery

A Windows 7 restore disk is bundled so the operating system can be reinstalled without downloading large images. The DVD/CDRW drive reads that media and handles legacy discs. All four memory slots are already populated, so adding more RAM is not possible. Buyers who want more storage or a solid-state drive will need a different platform.

Questions about this item

How do I install extra memory in the OptiPlex 745 mini tower, and which step do people often miss?

Open the chassis, press the DDR2 modules straight down into the four slots until the side clips snap shut; the step most people miss is filling all four slots to reach the 4 GB maximum.

What part will need replacement first on the OptiPlex 745?

The 500 GB hard drive is the only moving component and will wear out before the solid-state parts.

What limit appears first when the Pentium D 3.4 GHz runs a sustained heavy load?

The CPU hits its thermal ceiling and throttles because the integrated graphics share the same heat budget.
