OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower Desktop

The Dell OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower is a desktop computer built around an Intel 2nd Gen i7-2600 quad-core processor running at 3.40 GHz with turbo up to 3.90 GHz. It ships with 16 GB of DDR3 memory, a 2.5" 256 GB solid-state drive and a 3.5" 1 TB hard drive. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed and a USB keyboard and mouse are included.

Upgrade path from older dual-core systems

This configuration replaces aging dual-core desktops that struggle with modern multitasking. The jump is worth it when daily workloads involve several browser tabs, office suites and background updates running together. Buyers who need more storage than the combined 256 GB SSD and 1 TB HDD provide should look elsewhere.

Sustained load behaviour with 265 W supply

Under continuous load the 265 W power supply feeds the 65 W TDP processor and integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 without throttling in typical office scenarios. The Mini Tower chassis allows adequate airflow for extended sessions. The system is not suited for sustained GPU-intensive tasks such as 3D rendering or modern gaming.

Questions about this item

Will the 2.5-inch 256 GB SSD and 3.5-inch 1 TB hard drive both fit inside the Mini Tower case?

Yes, the Mini Tower chassis provides bays for one 2.5-inch drive and one 3.5-inch drive, so both supplied drives install without adapters.

Which memory slots accept the 16 GB DDR3 DIMMs and what is the correct orientation?

The board uses four 240-pin DDR3 slots; align the notch on each module with the key in the slot and press firmly until the retention clips click.

When should the 265 W power supply be replaced to keep the system stable?

Plan to swap the PSU if the machine randomly restarts under load or if the fan becomes noisy, typically after several years of continuous use.
