OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower Desktop

This Dell OptiPlex 790 Mini Tower desktop runs a quad-core Intel Core i7-2600 at 3.40 GHz with 16 GB of DDR3 memory and a 3.5-inch 500 GB SATA hard drive. It ships with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit installed, a DVD±RW drive, integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000, Gigabit Ethernet and a USB Wi-Fi adapter. A USB keyboard and mouse are included in the box.

Upgrade from dual-core or 8 GB systems

The i7-2600 provides four 64-bit cores, so the jump is worthwhile when moving from a dual-core processor or a machine limited to 8 GB of RAM. The 16 GB DDR3 configuration fills all four DIMM slots, removing the need for an immediate memory upgrade. Integrated graphics handle everyday display output without a discrete card.

Suited for office, education and home admin

This system suits buyers who need a ready-to-use Windows 10 Pro desktop for document work, web browsing or legacy business applications. It is not for users who require an SSD boot drive, discrete graphics performance, additional internal drive bays or memory expansion beyond the 16 GB DDR3 maximum.

Questions about this item

Will the 3.5-inch 500 GB SATA hard drive fit the Mini Tower drive bay?

Yes, the 3.5-inch 500 GB SATA hard drive mounts directly in the Mini Tower internal bay.

How do I install the WiFi USB adapter, and what step is often missed?

Plug the WiFi USB adapter into any free USB port, then install the driver from Windows 10 Pro before expecting a wireless connection.

What memory upgrades are possible later when all four DIMM slots are already filled with 4 GB modules?

All four 240-pin DDR3 slots are occupied, so any increase requires removing existing 4 GB modules and replacing them with higher-capacity DDR3 DIMMs up to the 16 GB total limit.
