Ready-to-use office desktop

The Dell OptiPlex 790 SFF arrives with Windows 10 Professional 64-bit pre-installed and a certificate of authenticity. An Intel quad-core i5 processor running at 2.9 to 3.3 GHz works with 8 GB of DDR3 memory and a 3.5-inch 500 GB SATA hard drive. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 handles everyday visual tasks. A DVD-RW drive, USB keyboard, USB mouse, Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth complete the package.

Step up from a dual-core or 4 GB system

Replacing a machine limited to two cores or 4 GB of RAM removes the bottleneck that stalls multitasking and slows boot times. The four-thread processor and doubled memory let you keep browser tabs, office suites and background updates open together. The jump is worth it when your current PC freezes during routine workloads or cannot install the latest security patches.

Check your DDR3 upgrade path and peripheral needs

The board uses 240-pin DDR3 DIMM slots with a 16 GB maximum, so any future memory addition must match that generation. The small form factor case restricts full-height expansion cards and limits drive bays to 3.5-inch SATA devices. Verify that your monitor has a compatible video input for the integrated graphics output before ordering.

Questions about this item

Will the SFF case accept a standard 3.5" 500 GB SATA hard drive?

Yes, the Small Form Factor chassis is designed for a 3.5" 500 GB SATA hard drive, which is already installed in the 3.5-inch bay.

How do I add more DDR3 memory, and what limit should I respect?

Open the case, insert modules into the 240-pin DIMM slots, and do not exceed the 16 GB DDR3 maximum supported by the Intel Q65 Express chipset.

When should I plan to replace the mechanical hard drive?

Mechanical drives typically last several years; monitor SMART health data and replace the 500 GB SATA unit if reallocated sectors appear or performance drops.
