Dell OptiPlex 790 SFF business desktop

This Dell OptiPlex 790 small-form-factor desktop is built for office environments. It ships new with an Intel Core i5-2400 processor running at 3.1 GHz and 4 GB of DDR3 memory. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 handles display output. The unit includes a 500 GB 7200 rpm SATA hard drive and a DVD±RW optical drive. No operating system is installed.

Build integration and expansion

The compact chassis fits standard SFF spaces and uses a SATA interface for the included hard drive. Memory slots accept DDR3 modules for future upgrades. Integrated graphics free a PCIe slot for additional cards such as discrete video or I/O controllers. A keyboard, mouse and power cord are included so the system is ready to connect to a display and network immediately.

Suitability and alternatives

This configuration suits general business tasks, legacy application support and light productivity workloads. Buyers who need more storage capacity or faster solid-state storage should consider other options. The 4 GB memory limit may restrict heavy multitasking or modern operating systems. Systems requiring dedicated graphics performance or higher core counts are not addressed by this platform.

Questions about this item

Will the i5-2400 3.1GHz CPU maintain its speed during long workloads inside the OptiPlex 790 SFF case?

The small-form-factor chassis uses the stock cooler designed for this processor; it runs at base clock for typical business tasks, though extended heavy loads may cause thermal throttling.

How loud and hot does the OptiPlex 790 SFF get when left on all day?

The SFF power supply and CPU fan are sized for office duty; they stay quiet at idle and produce moderate warmth under continuous use.

Does the OptiPlex 790 SFF come with a monitor, keyboard and mouse so it works straight away?

The box includes a keyboard, mouse and power cord; a display with VGA or DisplayPort input is needed separately.
