Dell OptiPlex 9020 MT Business Desktop

The Dell OptiPlex 9020 MT is a Mini Tower desktop built around an Intel Core i7-4790 processor running at 3.6 GHz. It comes with 8 GB of DDR3 memory and a 500 GB hard drive. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600 handles video output through VGA and two DisplayPort connectors. The system arrives without an operating system installed.

Installation Notes and Common Issues

The Mini Tower chassis provides tool-less access to two internal 3.5-inch bays and two external 5.25-inch bays for storage expansion. Four full-height expansion slots accept a PCIe x16 card, a second PCIe x16 slot wired x4, a PCIe x1 card and a legacy PCI card. The 290 W power supply limits the graphics cards that can be added without a PSU upgrade. Buyers must supply and install their own Windows licence before the PC is usable.

Best Fit and Limitations

This desktop suits offices needing a reliable legacy platform for standard productivity applications and multi-monitor setups using the integrated graphics outputs. It is not suited for buyers who want a solid-state boot drive pre-installed, builders who need a higher-wattage power supply for modern discrete GPUs, or users who require an operating system included in the purchase.

Questions about this item

How do I confirm the Intel HD Graphics 4600 is active after installing my OS?

After OS installation, open Device Manager and verify the display adapter shows Intel HD Graphics 4600. Connect a monitor to a DisplayPort or VGA port; a stable image at native resolution confirms the integrated graphics are working.

What components are included and what must I source separately?

The mini-tower includes the Core i7-4790 processor, 8 GB DDR3 memory, 500 GB hard drive, DVD-RW drive, 290 W power supply and all listed ports. You must purchase an operating system, a monitor, keyboard and mouse separately.

Which memory capacity should I choose for this OptiPlex 9020 MT?

The system ships with 8 GB DDR3 across four DIMM slots and supports up to 32 GB total. For general office work 8 GB is sufficient; add matched DDR3 modules in pairs if you need 16 GB or 32 GB for heavier multitasking.
