Dell OptiPlex 9800 SFF desktop

The Dell OptiPlex 9800 is a small-form-factor desktop PC running Windows 11 Home. It uses a dual-core Intel Core i5-6500 processor at 3.2 GHz with 8 GB of memory and a 128 GB SSD. Integrated Intel HD Graphics drives two included 22-inch LCD monitors for office work.

Upgrade from older office PCs

This system replaces ageing desktops that struggle with modern Windows updates and multitasking. The jump is worthwhile when moving from mechanical hard drives to solid-state storage and from single-core or early dual-core CPUs to a 6th-generation i5. Buyers who need more than two cores for heavier workloads should look elsewhere.

Capacity and headroom

The 128 GB SSD holds the operating system and essential business applications with modest space left for documents. Memory can be expanded to 32 GB across two slots for smoother multitasking. Storage runs out quickly with large media libraries or local databases, so external drives or a larger internal SSD become necessary.

Questions about this item

Will the 22 inch LCDs fit on a standard desk with the SFF chassis?

The SFF chassis is compact and the 22 inch LCDs use standard VESA mounts, so both can sit on a typical desk or be wall-mounted with a compatible bracket.

How do I install the USB WiFi adapter so it actually connects?

Plug the USB WiFi adapter into a rear USB port on the 9800 SFF, then use Windows 11 to select your network and enter the password; using a front port often drops the signal.

When should I replace the 128 GB SSD or add more RAM?

Replace the 128 GB SSD if Windows 11 updates leave little free space; the board has 2 memory slots and supports up to 32 GB total RAM for a later upgrade.
