Dell OptiPlex 990 Mini Tower Desktop

The Dell OptiPlex 990 Mini Tower is a desktop computer built around an Intel 2nd Gen i7-2600 processor running at 3.40 GHz with a 3.90 GHz turbo boost. It ships with 16 GB of DDR3 RAM, a 2.5" 128 GB solid-state drive and a 3.5" 1 TB hard drive. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed and a USB keyboard plus USB mouse are included in the box.

Suited to office and home use

This system suits buyers who need a quad-core desktop with 16 GB of DDR3 memory and dual-drive storage for everyday productivity, web browsing and media playback. Buyers who want more storage capacity or a discrete graphics card for gaming or GPU-accelerated workloads should look at a different configuration.

265 W power supply unit

The chassis contains a 265 W power supply that limits the graphics upgrade path to low-profile cards within that power envelope. The motherboard uses 240-pin DDR3 DIMM slots so only DDR3 modules are compatible.

Questions about this item

Will the 265 W power supply handle continuous full-load operation?

The system ships with a 265 W unit that powers the i7-2600, 16 GB DDR3, 128 GB SSD and 1 TB HDD; sustained heavy workloads stay within that envelope.

How loud or hot does the Mini Tower get during all-day use?

The chassis uses standard Dell thermal design for the i7-2600 and 265 W supply; fan noise rises under load but remains typical for an office Mini Tower.

Do I need to buy a monitor separately to use this desktop?

Yes — the listing states no monitor is included, so you must provide your own display with VGA, DisplayPort or HDMI input.
