Ready-to-use desktop for home office

The Dell OptiPlex 990 SFF arrives with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit pre-installed and a USB keyboard and mouse in the box. An Intel i7-2600 quad-core processor running at 3.40 GHz with 3.80 GHz turbo boost drives everyday multitasking. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR3 RAM and a 1 TB 2.5-inch SSD provide responsive application loading and ample file storage.

Bundled peripherals and software ready to work

The included USB keyboard and mouse eliminate the need for separate input-device purchases. Windows 10 Pro is already activated, so the system reaches the desktop without additional licence steps. A DVD±RW drive and a WiFi USB adapter handle legacy media and wireless networking respectively. Integrated Gigabit Ethernet and Intel HD Graphics 2000 cover wired connectivity and basic display output.

Small form factor limits internal expansion

The SFF chassis restricts add-in cards to low-profile dimensions and offers no room for full-height graphics cards or additional 3.5-inch drives. Buyers who need discrete GPU performance or multiple internal storage bays should consider a larger tower platform. The 240-pin DDR3 memory slots and 2.5-inch drive bay define the upgrade boundaries for this model.

Questions about this item

Will the 16 GB DDR3 memory need to be replaced or upgraded later?

The system ships with 16 GB of DDR3 RAM installed; this matches the typical maximum for the OptiPlex 990 SFF, so further memory upgrades are not expected.

What limits sustained performance first on the Intel i7-2600 3.40 GHz processor?

Under continuous load the quad-core CPU will hit its thermal ceiling before other components, causing the 3.80 GHz turbo to drop back toward the 3.40 GHz base clock.

How loud and hot does the small-form-factor chassis get when running all day?

The compact SFF case relies on a single internal fan; expect noticeable fan noise and warm exhaust air during extended sessions, while power draw stays within the unit's standard supply rating.
