Ultra-Small Form Factor Desktop

The Dell OptiPlex 990 USFF is a compact desktop computer built around a 2nd Generation Intel Quad-Core i5 processor running at 2.9 GHz to 3.30 GHz. It comes with 8 GB of DDR3 RAM and a 256 GB 2.5 inch SSD for responsive everyday performance. Windows 10 Professional 64-bit is pre-installed with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Upgrade From Older Hard-Drive Systems

This unit replaces ageing desktops that still rely on mechanical hard drives and dual-core processors. The jump is worth it when you need faster boot times, quicker application launches and the ability to handle multiple browser tabs or office programs simultaneously. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 2500 supports dual-monitor productivity without a discrete card.

Simple Setup With Included Peripherals

A USB keyboard and mouse are included so you only need to add a monitor and power cable to start working. The slim 16X DVD±RW drive handles legacy media and software installation. Wireless connectivity is provided by a USB WiFi adapter that occupies one port; ensure you have a spare USB header if you plan to add other peripherals.

Questions about this item

What are the physical dimensions or mounting requirements for the USFF case?

The OptiPlex 990 uses an Ultra-Small Form Factor chassis designed for desktop placement or optional mounting hardware; it houses a 2.5 inch 256 GB SSD and a slim 16X DVD±RW drive internally.

How is the WiFi USB adapter installed, and what step is often missed?

Plug the supplied WiFi USB adapter into any free USB port; the step people miss is allowing Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit to install the driver before expecting a wireless connection.

Which memory modules should I buy to upgrade the 8 GB DDR3 RAM later?

Purchase DDR3 DIMM 240-pin desktop modules; the system uses standard DDR3 memory, so match the existing speed and voltage for compatibility.
