DELL

DELL PD02Y-CP1 7.68TB SAS enterprise SSD

SKU CH-NER9-D7HYZ

7.68 TB SAS enterprise SSD built for read-intensive workloads in 2.5-inch Dell PowerEdge servers

  • Interface typeSAS
  • 68 TB capacity supports large read-intensive workloads
  • SAS 12/24 Gbps interface delivers high-throughput data transfer
  • Read-intensive TLC design optimises endurance for read-heavy applications
  • 5 inch form factor fits standard enterprise drive bays
  • Validated for Dell PowerEdge R760, R750, R660 and other servers

Capacity and interface

This Dell enterprise SSD provides 7.68TB of storage and connects through a SAS interface that operates at 12Gbps or 24Gbps. It uses read-intensive TLC flash memory in a 2.5-inch form factor suitable for server drive bays.

SAS bandwidth limits

The drive delivers its rated throughput only when the backplane and controller support 24Gbps SAS; at 12Gbps the link runs at half the peak bandwidth. Cable length, connector quality and the number of devices sharing a port can further reduce real-world speed.

Upgrade path and fit

It replaces lower-capacity SAS SSDs or HDDs in compatible Dell PowerEdge servers such as the R640, R740, R750, R760 and T440 models. The jump is worthwhile when workloads need higher read endurance and more space without adding extra drive slots.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 7.68TB capacity or a smaller drive for read-heavy workloads?

The 7.68TB capacity is the only one listed for this model; choose it when your read-intensive application needs maximum space in a single 2.5-inch bay.

What does the 12/24Gbps SAS rating mean for daily throughput?

It supports both 12Gbps and 24Gbps link speeds, so actual throughput will scale to the controller and backplane you install it in.

Which SAS standard does the drive use and what speed does it cap at?

It uses a SAS interface that negotiates up to 24Gbps, limiting the maximum link rate to that ceiling.
