Half-height blade server with dual 24-core Xeon Platinum 8160 CPUs at 2.1 GHz, 64 GB DDR4 ECC memory, PERC S140 controller, dual 10 Gb Ethernet and iDRAC9 Enterprise
Installed Memory Size 64GB
SSD (Installed) No
The Dell PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade built for dense compute in PowerEdge MX or M1000e chassis. Two Intel Xeon Platinum 8160 processors run at 2.1 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. Installed memory is 64 GB of DDR4 across four 16 GB modules, with capacity for up to 1.5 TB total.
This unit targets administrators scaling virtualization, private cloud or high-performance computing inside a supported blade enclosure. It lacks an operating system, front bezel and ready rails. Buyers who need a standalone rack server, dedicated GPU acceleration or more than two 2.5-inch drive bays should evaluate other form factors.
A Dell Broadcom 57810S-K dual-port 10 GbE network daughter card is fitted, providing 10 Gb connectivity per port for east-west traffic and storage networks. The PERC S140 controller handles RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 on SATA or NVMe drives installed in the two supplied caddies. iDRAC9 Enterprise gives full out-of-band management.

Other versions of this model
The server ships with 64GB DDR4 across 16 slots and supports up to 1.5TB total, so memory can be expanded well beyond the factory configuration.
Two 24-core Xeon Platinum 8160 processors at 2.1GHz with 3.7GHz turbo and a dual-port 10Gb Broadcom 57810S-K network card will draw significant power and generate heat that must be managed by the chassis cooling system.
The M640 blade requires a compatible PowerEdge MX or M1000e chassis with available half-height slots, chassis power supplies and cooling fans to operate.
