Half-height blade server with dual 24-core Xeon Platinum 8260 CPUs, 16GB DDR4, and two 1.92TB SATA SSDs
Installed Memory Size 16GB
SSD (Installed) 2 x 1.92TB SATA SSD
The Dell PowerEdge M640 is a half-height blade server built for dense compute environments. It ships with two Intel Xeon Platinum 8260 processors, each offering 24 cores at 2.4 GHz with a 3.9 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 16 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 16 slots. It targets workloads such as virtualization, private cloud and high-performance computing.
The platform supports a maximum of 1.5 TB of DDR4 memory, though this unit arrives with 16 GB installed. Two 2.5-inch drive bays are populated with 1.92 TB SATA SSDs managed by the integrated PERC S140 controller, which supports RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10. The blade form factor restricts internal expansion to these two bays and the available PCIe mezzanine slots. NVMe support is provided by the controller but requires compatible drives.
The M640 requires a PowerEdge MX or M1000e chassis for power, cooling and networking fabric. It includes a Broadcom 57810S-K dual-port 10 Gb blade network daughter card for high-speed connectivity. iDRAC9 Enterprise enables remote management and automation without an operating system. The front bezel and ready rails are not included with this blade unit.

Other versions of this model
This unit ships with both sockets filled — two Xeon Platinum 8260 2.4 GHz 24-core CPUs — so you get the full 56-core ceiling the M640 platform allows without adding processors later.
Each 24-core Xeon 8260 can lift from 2.4 GHz base to 3.9 GHz turbo under load, giving burst frequency for latency-sensitive threads while the 16 GB DDR4-2933 and PERC S140 keep storage queues fed.
The Broadcom 57810S-K provides two 10 Gb Ethernet links per blade; bandwidth tops out at 10 Gb/s per port and the card uses the blade's mezzanine slot, so no extra PCIe adapters are needed.
