Purpose-built 1U rack server for dense compute

The Dell PowerEdge R430 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 ten-core processor at 2.3 GHz with 8 GB of DDR4 memory into a 1U chassis. It ships with three 300 GB 15K SAS drives on a PERC H330 RAID controller supporting levels 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. The platform targets workloads that need high spindle speed and hardware RAID in minimal rack space.

Redundant 550 W supply and four 1 GbE ports

A single hot-swap 550 W power supply provides redundancy in a 1U form factor. Four integrated 1 GbE interfaces handle management and data traffic without extra cards. The iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller gives remote console, power control and firmware updates over a dedicated network path, keeping hands-off administration practical in lights-out racks.

Eight 2.5-inch hot-plug bays and two PCIe 3.0 slots

The front panel accepts up to eight 2.5-inch SAS or SATA drives in tool-less trays, allowing capacity to grow from the installed three drives to the controller maximum of 16 TB. Two low-profile PCIe 3.0 slots remain for additional NICs, HBAs or accelerators. A DVD-ROM and included rails complete the day-to-day serviceability picture.

Questions about this item

How do I install the E5-2650 v3 processor and what is the common mistake?

Align the notches on the processor with the socket keys, lower it straight down, and close the retention lever. The step people miss is applying thermal paste evenly before seating the heatsink; skipping this causes immediate overheating.

Which components will need replacement first under continuous operation?

The three 300 GB 15 K RPM SAS drives and the single 550 W power supply are the primary wear items; mechanical drives typically fail before the DDR4 memory or the H330 controller.

What is the first performance limit reached during sustained heavy workloads?

The installed 8 GB DDR4 across 12 DIMM slots becomes the bottleneck long before the 10-core CPU or the 12 Gbps H330 RAID controller saturate.
