1U Rack Server for Dense Compute

The Dell PowerEdge R430 fits a single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 with ten cores at 2.3 GHz into a 1U chassis. Eight gigabytes of DDR4 memory are installed across twelve DIMM slots, leaving room for expansion up to 384 GB. Three 600 GB 15K SAS drives and a PERC H330 RAID controller provide fast local storage for virtualization or database workloads.

Hot-Plug Drives and RAID Flexibility

Eight 2.5-inch bays accept SAS or SATA drives and the H330 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. The three pre-installed 15K drives deliver high IOPS for transaction-heavy applications, while empty trays allow immediate capacity increases without downtime. A DVD-ROM drive is included for legacy media installation.

Redundant Power and Remote Management

A single 550 W hot-swap power supply provides redundancy within the 1U form factor. Four 1 GbE ports handle network traffic, and two PCIe 3.0 slots allow additional controllers or NICs. The iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller enables out-of-band monitoring, firmware updates and remote console access from any location.

Questions about this item

Will the 8GB DDR4 modules need replacing if I expand memory later?

The 8GB DDR4 modules can stay installed; the server has 12 DIMM slots and supports up to 384GB total, so you add more modules instead of swapping the originals.

What limits the 600GB 15K SAS drives under sustained write workloads?

The H330 RAID controller’s 12Gbps SAS link and the drives’ 6Gbps interface cap sustained throughput before the CPU or memory become bottlenecks.

How loud and hot does the 1U chassis get with the single 550W supply running 24/7?

The 1U form factor uses high-speed fans to cool the E5-2650 v3 and three 15K drives, so expect noticeable fan noise and warm exhaust air during continuous operation.
