Dual Xeon Gold 5118 1U Server

The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rack server built for dense data-centre deployments. Two Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors provide 24 cores total at a 2.3 GHz base frequency. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory support reliable operation for virtualization and business applications. Eight drive bays accept 2.5-inch SATA solid-state drives.

Sustained Load Behaviour

Each Xeon Gold 5118 can reach 3.2 GHz turbo under load while the dual 550 W platinum power supplies share the draw for redundancy. The PERC H330 controller manages eight 960 GB SATA SSDs at 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA speeds for consistent throughput. Integrated dual-port gigabit Ethernet and iDRAC 9 Express remote management maintain connectivity during extended operations. ECC memory corrects errors that could otherwise interrupt long-running workloads.

Installation Notes

The unit mounts in a standard 1U rack space though ready rails and front bezel are not included. Eight hot-plug drive bays simplify SSD replacement without tools. Dual power supplies slide into the rear for quick service access. Memory slots use DDR4 ECC registered DIMMs that must match the installed 8 GB modules for proper operation. iDRAC 9 Express requires a dedicated network connection for out-of-band management.

Questions about this item

How much power do the two 550 watt supplies draw when the 2.3 GHz Xeon Gold 5118 processors run at full load all day?

Each supply is rated at 550 watts platinum efficiency; total system draw under load depends on the workload and the 12 core processors' turbo up to 3.2 GHz.

Which rails or mounting hardware do I need to install this 1U server in a standard rack?

The front bezel and ready rails are not included, so you must provide compatible 1U rack rails for a Dell PowerEdge R440 chassis.

Can the H330 controller manage the eight 960 GB SATA drives together with older SAS drives I already own?

The PERC H330 supports 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA, so it can manage the 2.5 inch SSDs alongside legacy SAS drives in the same eight bay backplane.
