Compact 1U rack server for dense compute deployments

The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 1U rackmount server built for space-constrained data centres and branch offices. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors running at 2.1 GHz with a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency, providing 16 cores per socket. The system includes 16 GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory and a PERC H730P storage controller with 2 GB cache.

Suited for virtualisation hosts

This configuration fits organisations that need redundant power and hardware RAID across four 3.5-inch drive bays. Buyers who require more than four internal drives, higher memory capacity from day one, or 10 GbE networking built into the chassis should evaluate other platforms.

Four-bay 3.5-inch chassis with H730P RAID controller

The server supports up to four 3.5-inch SATA or SAS drives through the H730P controller, which handles RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. This bay count and controller combination determines how much local storage you can install and which redundancy levels are available.

Questions about this item

What RAID levels does the H730P controller support and what is its SAS throughput?

The PERC H730P supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through at 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA with a 2 GB cache battery.

What drive bays and form factor does the R440 chassis provide?

The 1U chassis has four front-accessible 3.5-inch bays populated with 4 TB 7.2 K SATA drives; rails and bezel are not included.

How are the CPUs and memory installed, and what is the common mistake?

Two Xeon Gold 6130 processors and two 8 GB DDR4-2666 ECC RDIMMs are pre-installed; the common error is adding unregistered or non-ECC modules.
