Dual Xeon 2U Server for Virtualisation

The PowerEdge R530 packs two Xeon E5-2630 V3 eight-core processors at 2.4 GHz, delivering 32 virtual threads for multi-tenant workloads. Forty-eight gigabytes of DDR4 across 12 DIMM slots provide immediate headroom for typical virtualisation clusters. The 2U rack form factor fits standard cabinets while leaving room for expansion cards. It suits teams consolidating legacy applications onto fewer physical hosts.

Storage Headroom with 15K SAS and H730 RAID

Two 600 GB 15K SAS drives supply low-latency storage for OS and active databases, while eight hot-plug bays accept additional SAS or SATA drives up to 80 TB total. The Perc H730 controller with 1 GB cache supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, letting you balance capacity and redundancy. Memory tops out at 384 GB when all slots are populated with 32 GB modules, so very large in-memory datasets will need a different platform.

PCIe 3.0 Slots and 1GbE Networking Limits

Five PCIe slots — three at 3.0 and two at 2.0 — accommodate RAID upgrades, additional NICs or GPU accelerators, but the daughter card only provides four 1 GbE ports. High-throughput east-west traffic or 10 GbE uplinks require add-in cards, consuming slot budget. The Matrox G200eR2 video output is limited to basic console management, not graphical workloads. iDRAC8 Express handles remote management out of the box, with Enterprise features available as an upgrade.

Questions about this item

Can the 48GB DDR4 2400 MT/s modules installed in this R530 be moved to another server that also takes DDR4?

The server has 12 DIMM slots populated with DDR4 up to 2400 MT/s; modules can be reused in any system that accepts the same DDR4 form factor and speed.

How can I confirm the dual E5-2630 v3 CPUs and H730 RAID controller are detected after power-on?

During POST the BIOS lists both 8-core 2.4 GHz Xeon processors and shows the PERC H730 with its 1 GB cache; iDRAC8 also reports the same inventory in its hardware view.

Which items ship with the chassis — drives, rails, cables — and what must I source separately?

The box includes the 2U chassis, two 600 GB 15K SAS drives, two 750 W redundant power supplies, a DVD-ROM, one power cable and the iDRAC8 Express card; rail kits and any operating system are not included.
