2U rack server with dual eight-core Xeon processors at 2.4GHz, 96GB DDR4, two 300GB 15K SAS drives and a H730 RAID controller supporting RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60
Installed Memory Size 96GB
HDD 2 x 300GB 15K
The Dell PowerEdge R530 is a 2U rack-mount server equipped with two Intel Xeon E5-2630 V3 eight-core processors running at 2.4GHz. It ships with 96GB of DDR4 memory across 12 DIMM slots and includes two 300GB 15K SAS drives managed by a PERC H730 RAID controller. Dual 750W redundant power supplies and an iDRAC8 remote-management module complete the package for small-to-medium business workloads.
The system supports up to eight 3.5-inch hot-plug bays accepting SAS or SATA drives, with a maximum raw capacity of 80TB. The H730 controller provides 1GB cache and 12Gbps SAS connectivity, enabling RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Installed drives operate at 6Gbps SAS speeds, so the backplane and controller headroom remains unused until faster drives are added.
At 25.4 inches deep and 62 lbs, the chassis requires a standard four-post rack and two-person handling during installation. Five PCIe slots — three at 3.0 and two at 2.0 — allow for additional network or accelerator cards, while the daughter card supplies four 1GbE ports. The included DVD-ROM and slide rails simplify initial setup, but the fixed 96GB memory ceiling means future expansion requires replacing existing modules rather than adding to empty slots.

Other versions of this model
The R530 chassis supports up to 8 x 3.5" hot-plug SAS or SATA drives, and this unit ships with 2 x 300GB 15K SAS drives leaving six bays free for expansion.
96GB fills half the 12 DIMM slots and reaches the processor-limited maximum of 96GB; the system can address up to 384GB if higher-capacity modules are added later.
The H730 handles SAS at 12Gbps and SATA at 6Gbps, so the installed 15K SAS drives run at their native 6Gbps link speed while the controller supports RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60.
