  • iDRAC 9 Express enables remote monitoring and administration over network
  • Dual 750W platinum power supplies deliver redundant power for uptime

Configuration and Role

This Dell PowerEdge R540 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors at 2.1GHz, reaching 3.7GHz turbo. It carries 128GB of DDR4-2666 ECC memory across eight 16GB modules and uses a PERC HBA330 controller for twelve 3.5-inch drive bays currently populated with fillers.

Fit and Gaps

The system suits organisations that need a 2U platform for virtualisation, database work or software-defined storage with dual-CPU compute and ECC memory reliability. Buyers who need populated drive bays, included rack rails, a front bezel or a higher-tier iDRAC licence should look at a different configuration.

Deciding Specification

The PERC HBA330 is a 12Gb/s SAS/SATA host bus adapter without RAID capability, so the server delivers raw drive connectivity only; anyone requiring hardware RAID must select a different controller.

Questions about this item

How do I install the Dell PERC HBA330 storage controller and what step is commonly missed?

Seat the HBA330 firmly in a PCIe slot, connect the SAS cables to the 12-bay backplane, and enable the controller in BIOS before the OS loads.

Which components will need replacement first during long-term operation?

The two 750W platinum power supplies and the system fans are the primary field-replaceable units that wear out under continuous duty.

What thermal or power limit appears first when both Xeon Gold 6130 CPUs run at 3.7GHz turbo under sustained load?

The 750W power supply rating and the 2U chassis airflow ceiling cap combined CPU turbo before memory or storage bandwidth becomes the bottleneck.
