Rackmount server with dual Xeon Gold 6148 processors, 256 GB DDR4 memory and eight 1.2 TB SAS drives in 2.5-inch bays
The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rackmount server configured with two Intel Xeon Gold 6148 processors running at 2.40GHz. It delivers 40 cores and 256GB of DDR4 memory to support virtualization, databases, file storage and application hosting. Eight 2.5-inch drive bays come populated with 1.2TB 10K SAS drives connected through an H730P storage controller.
Dual redundant power supplies and a managed fan array keep the chassis stable under sustained multi-core loads. Front-to-rear airflow matches standard rack layouts and the integrated iDRAC9 with CX422A provides remote thermal monitoring and power telemetry without requiring a local display or keyboard.
The H730P RAID controller with 2GB cache accelerates array rebuilds and enables online capacity expansion for the eight SAS drives. Pre-configured logical volumes let administrators deploy virtual machines or backup targets immediately after racking the system. No operating system is included so the platform can be licensed for Windows Server, Linux or a hypervisor of choice.

Slide each 1.2TB drive into the hot-plug bays until the carrier locks, then use the H730P controller BIOS to create the RAID array before installing an OS.
The H730P uses a capacitor-backed cache module that should be checked periodically and replaced if the controller reports a degraded cache state.
The 256GB DDR4 memory ceiling is reached before the 3TB maximum, so heavy virtualization will hit the installed capacity first.
