Dual-socket 1U server for dense virtualization

This Dell PowerEdge R650 packs two Intel Xeon Silver 4316 processors with 20 cores each at 2.3 GHz, plus 256 GB of DDR4-2666 registered ECC memory. The 1U rack form factor and redundant hot-swap 1400 W power supplies make it a compact building block for virtualization hosts, database clusters or private-cloud nodes where compute density matters.

PERC H755 RAID and quad 1 GbE OCP card

The bundled Dell PERC H755 controller adds 8 GB of non-volatile cache and a battery, enabling RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the ten 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drive trays. A Broadcom 5720 quad-port 1 GbE OCP 3.0 network adapter and iDRAC 9 Enterprise remote management are also pre-installed, so storage redundancy and out-of-band control arrive ready to configure.

Ten 2.5-inch bays limit raw capacity

Only ten 2.5-inch drive bays are provided, so maximum raw storage is constrained by the number of trays rather than controller channels. Buyers who need more storage bays or NVMe-only backplanes should evaluate alternative chassis designs.

Questions about this item

When will the H755 RAID controller battery need replacement?

The H755 includes an 8 GB NV cache backed by a battery; plan to replace the battery module every three to five years to preserve write-cache protection during power loss.

What limits sustained compute throughput on the dual Xeon Silver 4316 configuration?

The two 20-core Xeon Silver 4316 CPUs run at 2.3 GHz base with 3.4 GHz turbo; under continuous all-core load the base frequency and thermal envelope become the limiting factor.

How much power do the redundant 1400 W platinum PSUs draw at full load?

Each supply is rated at 1400 W platinum efficiency; with both populated the system can draw up to the combined rating while maintaining redundancy.
