Two-socket 2U rack server with dual eight-core 2.6 GHz Xeon processors, 256 GB DDR4 memory and eight 400 GB SATA SSDs on a PERC H730 controller
The PowerEdge R730 delivers two Intel Xeon E5-2640 v3 processors at 2.6 GHz with eight cores each, 256 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 24 slots and eight 400 GB SATA SSDs managed by a PERC H730 controller. It targets midsize enterprises deploying virtual desktop infrastructure, database clusters or high-performance computing data nodes. Redundant 750 W power supplies and iDRAC8 Enterprise remote management support continuous operation in a 2U rack footprint.
This configuration fits buyers who need large DDR4 capacity and hardware RAID across eight 2.5-inch bays. It does not serve workloads that require dedicated graphics acceleration or more than two processor sockets. The X520/I350 daughter card provides two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports for flexible network connectivity.
The storage subsystem centres on a Dell PERC H730 1 GB mini controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode, backed by a battery to protect cached writes during power loss. All eight installed drives are 400 GB SATA SSDs on a 6 Gb/s interface. Buyers needing a different RAID level or drive count should verify controller limits before purchase.

Other versions of this model
Slide each drive into a hot-swap bay until the latch clicks; the step often missed is creating the virtual disk in the PERC H730 BIOS before the OS sees any volume.
The PERC H730 controller battery and the two 750 W power supplies are the primary field-replaceable units that degrade with age.
The 750 W platinum power supplies set the ceiling; sustained dual-CPU turbo can draw enough to trigger throttling before the cooling system reaches its limit.
