Built for virtualisation and database workloads

This 2U rack server ships with two Xeon E5-2680 v3 processors, each running at 2.5 GHz with 12 cores and a 3.3 GHz turbo frequency. The 256 GB of DDR4 2133 MHz registered ECC memory is populated across eight 32 GB modules. It targets midsize and large enterprises running data warehouses, VDI, databases or high-performance computing nodes.

Verify rack space and network cabling

The chassis occupies 2U of rack height and includes ready rails and a front bezel. Two 750 W platinum hot-swap power supplies provide redundant power. Network connectivity uses a quad-port daughter card with two 1 GbE ports and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports, so confirm your switch has compatible SFP+ transceivers and cabling before installation.

Storage controller handles RAID and frees PCIe slots

The PERC H730 1 GB controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode for the eight 2.5-inch drive bays. Two 400 GB SATA SSDs are installed, leaving six bays open for expansion. Integrated iDRAC 8 Enterprise enables remote management without consuming an additional PCIe slot.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box and what must I buy separately?

The server ships with dual Xeon E5-2680 v3 processors, eight 32 GB DDR4 modules, two 400 GB SATA SSDs, PERC H730 controller, quad-port X520/I350 network card, iDRAC8 Enterprise, dual 750 W PSUs, rails and bezel. Additional drives or memory are purchased separately.

Which memory capacity should I choose for this configuration?

The system includes 256 GB across eight 32 GB DDR4 2133 MHz registered ECC modules. Twenty-four slots support up to 1.5 TB total, so you can add more 32 GB sticks later if workloads grow.

What does the 3.3 GHz turbo figure mean in daily use?

Each 12-core Xeon E5-2680 v3 runs at 2.5 GHz base and can boost to 3.3 GHz when thermal headroom allows, giving short bursts of higher single-thread speed for database or virtualization spikes.
