Dual 14-core Xeon 2.0 GHz server with 64 GB DDR4, PERC H730 RAID, quad-port 1/10 GbE networking, iDRAC8 Enterprise, dual 750 W PSUs, rails and bezel in a 2U rack chassis
The Dell PowerEdge R730 is a 2U rack server built for midsize and large enterprise workloads. It runs two Intel Xeon E5-2660 v4 processors, each with 14 cores at 2.0 GHz and a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 64 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory across four modules. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies provide redundant hot-swap power.
This server suits teams running virtual desktop infrastructure, databases, data warehouses or high-performance computing tasks that benefit from 28 total cores and large memory capacity. The PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Buyers who need more than 24 DIMM slots or a higher maximum memory ceiling than 1.5 TB should look at a different platform.
The board provides 24 DDR4 slots with a 1.5 TB maximum capacity, so the installed 64 GB can be expanded significantly. Memory must be DDR4 registered ECC; other DDR generations will not fit. This slot count and capacity limit are the key figures for planning future upgrades.

Other versions of this model
The server occupies 2U of rack height and ships with Ready Rails for tool-less mounting in standard four-post racks.
Both LGA 2011-3 sockets are already populated with the 14-core CPUs; the 64 GB (4×16 GB) DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC modules fill four of the 24 DIMM slots — installers sometimes forget to enable the memory mode in BIOS for optimal performance.
The two 750 W platinum hot-swap power supplies and the PERC H730 controller battery are the primary field-replaceable units; drive trays and fans are also hot-swappable for future maintenance.
