2U rack server with dual 22-core Xeon processors, 512 GB DDR4 memory, twelve 4 TB SATA drives and PERC H730 RAID controller
The Dell PowerEdge R730xd packs twelve 3.5-inch drive bays into a 2U rack chassis. Dual 22-core Xeon E5-2699 v4 processors at 2.2 GHz provide 44 threads total. 512 GB of DDR4 ECC memory fills 16 of 24 slots. A PERC H730 controller with 1 GB cache manages the twelve 4 TB 7.2K SATA drives in RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 or 60.
This configuration targets buyers who need high raw capacity and many cores in a compact rack footprint. The 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA backplane and quad-port 1/10 GbE networking support virtualisation, database and HPC data-node roles. Buyers who require solid-state media, more than twelve bays or a newer processor generation should look at other platforms.
The installed H730 mini card delivers hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode with battery-backed cache. It governs all twelve SATA drives and any future SAS additions. Confirm that its RAID levels and 12 Gb/s SAS interface match your storage topology before purchase.

Other versions of this model
Slide each 3.5" SATA drive into the hot-swap bays until the latch clicks; the step often missed is confirming the PERC H730 controller detects all 12 drives and initializing a virtual disk before the OS install.
The twelve 7.2K SATA hard drives and the two 750W power supplies are the primary field-replaceable units; the H730 controller battery also degrades over time and should be swapped when the firmware reports a fault.
The dual 750W platinum power supplies set the hard ceiling; sustained all-core turbo on both 22-core processors can draw enough current to trigger throttling or PSU protection before the cooling subsystem reaches its limit.
