2U rack server holding twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug drives, dual Xeon E5-2650 v3 ten-core 2.3 GHz CPUs, 128 GB DDR4 and an H330 RAID controller with redundant 750 W power
The Dell PowerEdge R730XD fits twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug drives into a 2U rack chassis, making it suited to archives, backup targets or media libraries that need capacity in minimal height. A single Xeon E5-2650 v3 with ten cores at 2.3 GHz and 128 GB of DDR4 across 24 DIMM slots handles file services and light virtualization. The H330 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60 for flexible redundancy.
Dual 750 W redundant power supplies keep the array and CPU running during a module failure, so sustained write streams stay uninterrupted. The 12 Gbps SAS/SATA backplane feeds all bays without oversubscription, letting rebuilds and sequential workloads maintain pace. Six PCIe 3.0 slots remain free for additional NICs or HBAs if throughput must scale beyond the four onboard 1 GbE ports.
Tool-less drive carriers slide from the front, while the motherboard tray pulls out for memory or processor access without unplugging cables. The iDRAC8 remote management card provides out-of-band console and power control over a dedicated port. Rails and bezel are included, so the unit mounts in standard four-post cabinets and presents a clean front panel for daily datacentre operations.

Other versions of this model
The server uses two 750W hot-swap power supplies in a 2U chassis; fan speed ramps with CPU and drive temperatures, so sustained workloads will increase airflow and noise compared with idle operation.
The chassis accepts up to twelve 3.5" SAS or SATA drives; no drives or caddies are included, so you must provide compatible drives and Dell 3.5" hot-plug trays.
Yes, the system offers up to six PCIe 3.0 slots plus a separate RAID card slot, so current PCIe 3.0 cards will install without adapter changes.
